What is the secret to working on sophisticated residential design projects with highly discerning clients—and making the grade enough to be asked back for the second project, and even the third? It is certainly more than just showing up on time.

Join celebrity Design-Client Courtney Thorne-Smith (Two and a Half Men CBS, Melrose Place & Ally McBeal) as she talks with her own noted designer Monique Lafia (ASID, CIDC) about the process of designing her home and selecting the Designer-Contractor-Architect team (including 5 homes with Monique)-L/A). Client and Designer speak openly about what is critical to each in deciding to work together again. Lafia and Thorne-Smith have designed five homes together during the last 16+ years, including Courtney’s Brentwood estate (a magnificent Brentwood cottage that was featured in In Style Magazine). Monique’s projects for celebrity, sports and business clients, such as Wayne Gretzky, and Rob Lowe, including the historic "Buster Keaton Estate. have been published in Architectural Digest, Robb Report, Coastal Living, Trends and California Homes . Prestigious luxury builder Gary Drake, of Drake General Contractor, joins in the panel discussing the secret to his "repeat business" with some of the most notable clients in Los Angeles. He has worked on homes for Madonna, Sting, Rod Stewart and Jim Carrey—and has renovated eight classic Paul Williams homes, to date.

We were honored to have been selected by the Top Organizations of Design (“ASID”) and Architecture (“AIA”) as Key-Note Speaker at WESTWEEK with Noted Fellow Panelists – Landscape Designer (Mark David Levine), Architect (William Hefner, AIA), Designer (Monique – NCIDQ, CID, ASID), and Bart Mandel (Construction Management), to discuss the “A Team” - Successful Partnering on Luxury Estates – Successfully Building/Completing 20,000 Square Foot Estates.

The Event was hosted by the Editor-in-Chief of California Homes, Susan McFadden. Panel members have worked on very noteworthy (“historic”) projects in California. Mark David Levine, Landscape Designer, is the long-time Landscape Designer for the “Harold Lloyd Estate/Green Acres”, “next door” to Lafia/Arvin “Buster Keaton Estate” historical project. All Panelists have numerous Estate, Historic, and High-Profile Projects throughout California and the U.S.
